Famous Last Words

Catcher in the Rye


The reader finds Holden on a therapy bench after he has told the rest of his story. We find out the therapist asked him Why he is here today and Holden told him about the stretch of three days where he left Pencey Academy.

Gatsby is dead and their isn't anything left for Nick in either East Egg of West Egg. Instead, he remarks on the state of the world as he has seen mimicked through his tortured friends.

Jake Barnes is in love with Brett Ashley, but due to his army injury is not able to satisfy her. She marries and falls in love with other men leaving Jake behind, but always comes back to him as a friend. She says they could have had a good time together and this was his response.

Is a book about last words. Our narrator, Miles, is obsessed with famous last words himself, so it is no surprise the last words in Looking For Alaska were:
